7 WAYS YOU’RE UNINTENTIONALLY WRECKING YOUR EYES

If there was one thing in this world that’s most important to you yet gets so neglected and abused—it’s your eyes.

 

You may do it unconsciously, unintentionally. But the result could be the same. You could ruin your vision.

 

Let’s take a look at some of the most common ways you can wreck your eyesight.

 

Rubbing your eyes

I know. Sometimes, it just feels so good! But restrain yourself! Vigorous friction can not only irritate your eyes and rupture your blood vessels; it can also inadvertently transmit viruses and bacteria from your fingers and hands to your eyes.

So next time you feel the irresistible urge to rub your eyes, try massaging around them instead. It should make you feel better without the corresponding risk!

Touching your eyes without washing

You touch your faces multiple times a day, giving your bacteria-carrying fingers and hands lots of opportunities to contaminate your eyes. Avoid touching or scratching your eyes. If you have to put your fingers on them, make sure you first wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.

 Disregarding headaches

A lot of people suffer from headaches but think nothing of it. If you're tormented by frequent headaches, you need to check if it’s connected to your eyes. Working in front of a computer for extended periods of time can cause eyestrain, which causes painful or irritated eyes, blurry vision, and difficulty focusing.

Too much screen time

Whether you’re working, reading, writing, replying to emails or passing time on social media, spending an inordinate amount of time in front of a computer screen can cause eye fatigue or dryness. Balance your screen time; don’t overdo it!

Keeping things too close

Sitting too close to your TV or keeping your mobile device or computer screen too close to your eyes can result in your eyes continually shifting focus and causing eye fatigue. Keep a comfortable distance of around 50 cm from your screen so you don’t abuse your eye health.

Swimming without goggles

Goggles function as your eyes’ waterproof protection against possible damaging bacteria in the water. Your goggles don’t need to be expensive or fancy. Just make sure they’re comfortably secure and you’re all good.

Wearing scratched lenses

Scratched lenses can impede your vision and spark a glare when you’re driving in the dark or at night. Ensure your glasses are clear and scratch-free to avoid eye damage.
