15 Celebrity Recipes To Sink Your Teeth Into
July 30, 2020
Pioneers baked almond cake just because Abraham Lincoln loved it, and moms packed peanut butter and pickle sandwiches for work and school just because Elvis Presley liked them. We have always had this habit of stealing recipes from the rich and famous, until someone got the bright idea to start making celebrity cookbooks and the rest is history.
Hey, it must be scrumptious because they ate it! Nothing has really changed. When Chrissie Teigen barters her own banana bread during quarantine and Kylie Jenner Instagrams her own instant ramen style, lips smack and kitchens light up everywhere. Bloggers like me get excited about this stuff, so let’s take a look at some of our favorite celebrity recipes!
1. Meghan Markle’s Zucchini Bolognese
Markle’s vegetarian take on the traditionally meat-based dish transforms zucchini into a creamy pasta sauce. Clear your schedule before you take a crack at the recipe; this dish takes four hours to prepare.
2. Natalie Coughlan’s Asparagus and Sweet Onion Frittata
The U.S. Olympic swimming gold medalist made a splash with her cookbook Cook to Thrive last year, and this was our favorite dish in the pages. We’ve missed following her this summer when Olympic glory would have called again, but following this recipe this is the next-best thing.
3. Abraham Lincoln’s Favorite Cake
Like almonds? You’ll love this recipe that Mary Todd Lincoln made for the 16th President. HONEST!
4. Dwayne Johnson's World Famous Pancakes
Aunt Jemima has changed just a bit since 2016, but look back at this Instagram video posted by The Rock and you can see how he rolls with his own pancake batter. Now we know what his nickname was in high school. Thanks to Men’s Journal for the full recipe!
5. Oprah Winfrey's Deviled Eggs
The television personality, who wrote a cookbook called "Food, Health, and Happiness: 115 On-Point Recipes for Great Meals and a Better Life," serves up classic deviled eggs that are fairly easy to make and last for up to two days.
6. Chrissy Teigen's Banana Bread
The social media star and wife of John Legend adds chocolate chunks and coconut flakes. We know this from her cookbook Cravings: Hungry for More -- and also because of what happened during quarantine. "I'll make a banana bread for anyone that has romaine lettuce,” she tweeted when we are all hunkered down at our worst, and you can look here to see who won.
7. Shalene Flanagan’s Can’t Beet Me Smoothie
You might have read the excellent Run Fast, Eat Slow cookback that the 2017 New York City Marathon champ co-wrote with Elyse Kopecky. Runners World listed five of her best recipes from the book, and we’ll start with this one.
8. Stanley Tucci Ragù
This was adapted by The New York Times from The Tucci Cookbook, a book of recipes from the actor and director Stanley Tucci’s food-obsessed family. We loved him best in The Devil Wears Prada, and we know you will love this Italian pasta dish. Two ragu dishes in one post? Hey, we're hungry.
9. Kylie Jenner's Instant Ramen
You know anything with the word “celebrity” is going to include at least one Kardashian. That’s life. Back in 2016, the model asked her followers to share what they put into their ramen noodles. She shared with the world how she prepares hers. She likes to add butter, garlic powder, and an egg. Yum.
10. Dolly Parton's Chicken and Dumplings
PARADE magazine asked Dolly about her own home specialty, and the country legend and beloved American icon was quick to choose this one first. It sticks to your ribs and makes a great comfort meal.
11. Reese Witherspoon’s Grandma Dorothea's Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe
The Tennessee-born actor wrote the cookbook Whiskey in a Teacup, in which she shared her late grandmother Dorothea Draper's recipe. Witherspoon was also inspired outside the kitchen by her grandparents; witness her Draper James clothing line. “My grandparents taught me everything I know about gracious Southern living,” she wrote on her company’s site.
12. Matt Damon's Saffron Risotto with Steamed Asparagus
It should have been a potato dish, right? You know, he was pretty good at growing them in The Martian. But we’ll go with this tasty and healthy dish that he served up.
14. Blake Lively's Cauliflower
Five years ago, the actress was a new mom and she shared a recipe for roasted cauliflower that she whipped up with Top Chef season 3 winner Hung Huynh. We still like this one.
