Hot Picks: 7 Favorite Healthy Drinks
October 15, 2018
Thousands have lived without love, not one without water. - W. H. Auden
We often talk about healthy food, but we almost never discuss healthy drinks. Hmm, I think it’s time we do, don’t you?
Obviously, water is the healthiest drink out there. Nothing better than that. But sometimes, you just crave for something with more flavor in it. It happens. (I’m talking about me!)
So what options do you have when you want to drink something more flavorful, yet stay committed to your goal to stay healthy?
Let me share with you my 7 favorite healthy beverages, in order of (my) preference.
1. Cucumber-Mint Limeade
Mocktails are particularly trendy right now. And this cucumber-mint limeaide leads the pack. A powerful detoxifying beverage, it helps cleanse the body and aids digestion. Let’s go and whip up this cool cucumber-mint limeaide for a delightfully invigorating drink!
2. Lemon Juice
I’m not talking about lemonade here, though that’s also a great alternative. Lemon juice (or I call it lemon water) is another fantastic source of vitamin C and a powerful immunity booster. Simply squeeze a half lemon into a cool glass of water and you’re good to go!
3. Watermelon Lime Mocktail
Another hydrating drink I love is the watermelon lime. Naturally sweet and watery, watermelon helps lower inflammation, prevent muscular degeneration, and relieve muscle soreness. You can add a touch of agave for added sweetness if you prefer!
4. Low Fat Milk
I’m not saying it’s a practical thing to do and very few people probably do it, but I’m one of the few who goes to Starbucks and actually orders a glass of milk. Of course, milk! While regular milk is an excellent source of vitamin C and calcium, the low-fat variety is abundant in protein and contains less saturated fat. You don’t have to get it from Starbucks, though.
5. Green Tea
Give this warm and comforting drink a try! It’s been known to help manage your blood sugar after a meal. It has antioxidants and just enough caffeine to give you that energy boost without the crash. I personally drink this when I’m feeling a bit stressed.
6. Coconut Water
I admit, not everyone appreciates the taste of coconut water. But there’s no doubt that this tropical drink hydrates the body and provides an impressive amount of potassium, which plays an essential role in regulating blood pressure and maintaining a healthy heart. I find the taste cool and refreshing and like to drink it in the morning.
7. Beet Juice
A potent source of folic acid, nitrates, and magnesium, beet juice can help improve blood flow and manage blood pressure. It also, incredibly, increases endurance during exercise and makes for a healthy liver.
The only challenge with beet juice is it may not be so easy to find them at the supermarket. You’ll probably need to make it at home, buy from a juice bar, or—
Try Havasu’s organic Beet Root Powder, a power-packed health booster that not only tastes amazing, but also supports the circulatory and vascular health, and bolsters energy levels and for optimal performance.
