Understanding Proposition 65
Some Havasu Nutrition products may include a California Proposition 65 (Prop 65) warning.
We understand that seeing this warning may raise questions, and we believe transparency is the best way to answer them.
California's Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 (Proposition 65) is essentially a labeling law that requires businesses to display warnings when products may expose California consumers to certain chemicals above extremely low thresholds established by the State of California and only applicable to residents of California. The law covers more than 900 naturally occurring and synthetic substances. Products are required to have a warning when these substances are present, even if they are naturally occurring. These warning thresholds are often significantly lower than safety standards established by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and international regulatory agencies.
A Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean that a product is unsafe to consume or use, nor does it mean that it violates any federal safety regulations. It simply means that the product displays the warning to meet the requirements in the state of California.
Why Can Lead Be Found in Supplements?
Lead is a naturally occurring element found throughout the environment. It exists naturally in soil, water, and air, where plants absorb minerals and nutrients as they grow.
Because many dietary supplements contain ingredients that originate from plants, minerals and other naturally sourced chemicals such as, trace amounts of naturally occurring lead may sometimes be present despite careful sourcing and manufacturing practices. This is an industry-wide challenge—not one unique to Havasu Nutrition.
Our suppliers and manufacturing partners work to minimize these naturally occurring contaminants through responsible sourcing and strict quality controls. Rest assured Havasu Nutrition products are safe to consume and are made following mandatory FDA Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) regulations.
Why Do We Include the Warning?
When appropriate, we include the warning to comply with Proposition 65 labeling requirements rather than avoid selling products into California. Our customers in California deserve information that allows for informed purchasing decisions.
A Proposition 65 warning reflects Havasu Nutrition's compliance with California labeling requirements only and should not be interpreted as an indication that a product is unsafe when used as directed.
