Natural Ways to Treat Acne

December 15, 2021

While there are seemingly unlimited options for treating acne with prescriptions and creams, it is important to explore other avenues that are more holistic.

Supplements are an important part of a good skincare routine, especially if they are organic without all of the unnecessary additives. Biotin gummies work at the cellular level to support healthy skin. Another excellent benefit of Biotin is that it contributes to weight loss while increasing energy and your metabolism.

Here are seven natural ways to help treat acne, including foods, plants, herbs and creams:

Apple Cider Vinegar

We cover the benefits of apple cider vinegar a lot in this blog and for good reason. Not only does it help with weight loss and detoxifying your system, it also helps with reducing inflammation and clearing up bacterial infections, both of which are contributing factors to facial blemishes caused by acne. Take some in the morning every day and you should start seeing results within a couple of weeks. Lactic acid in apple cider vinegar has been shown to improve acne scars.

Sugar Mask

In a bowl, combine two tablespoons of brown sugar and two tablespoons of honey. Mix them into a paste and apply directly onto the skin and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Then, wash with warm water while still massaging the skin. After doing this a few times a week for a couple of weeks, you should see a noticeable improvement as your acne begins to vanish.

Cocoa Butter

Cocoa butter for over a century has been an effective treatment for stretch marks and scarring from acne. Be sure that you are applying it sparingly after your acne has cleared up to help to repair the scarring, as it can clog pores and worsen the problem if the face isn’t already cleared.

Tea Tree Oil

You can use this aromatic oil to spot-treat acne breakouts because it has antimicrobial properties that help to eliminate bacterial infections and improve immune function, inflammation and overall skin health. It’s very strong so it’s important to use it sparingly.

Green Tea

Apply green tea directly to your skin. It’s an excellent antioxidant and contains plant-based compounds that help to treat acne. It has polyphenols that help to fight bacteria and inflammation, the two main contributing factors to acne.

Witch Hazel

This astringent has been around for over a century. Your mother and grandmother probably used it to take off makeup. It contains tannins which act as antimicrobial and anti-inflammatories. It’s extracted from the bark and leaves of the witch hazel shrub, grown mostly in North America. It’s also used to treat eczema, dandruff, burns, bruises and bites along with acne. Use about a teaspoon on a cotton swab to wipe your face.

Aloe Vera

Contains naturally occurring salicylic acid and sulfur, both of which help to clear up acne. Aloe has a cooling effect on the skin and is also excellent to help reduce the appearance of scarring from acne breakouts. You can get it straight from the plant, which is the purest source, or at your local drug store in a cream or gel.

Start trying out some of these natural remedies, and you should notice your skin clearing up quickly. As always, be sure to discuss any remedies you’re using with your doctor and consult your physician if you do not notice an improvement.
